The bird’s presence in the hands of Elisa Tsainama (Kena), framed by her white beaded necklaces, forms a harmonious composition. The paint used to adorn her face is a liquid made from crushed charcoal, sometimes mixed with genipap.

The Marubo people united after exploitation by rubber tappers and loggers. They live in maloca communities, preserving their surroundings. In 1990, they were fighting for land recognition, which was achieved in Terra Indígena Vale do Javari seven years later. Recent attacks in the area have resulted in tragic incidents, including deaths of indigenist Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips.
