Iraci’s (Shapõni) beaded necklace shows the intricate details of Marubo craftsmanship. The light also reveals the delicate river snail shells used by Marubo women to make necklaces, like this traditional piece of jewellry.

The Marubo people united after exploitation by rubber tappers and loggers. They live in maloca communities, preserving their surroundings. In 1990, they were fighting for land recognition, which was achieved in Terra Indígena Vale do Javari seven years later. Recent attacks in the area have resulted in tragic incidents, including deaths of indigenist Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips.
