I was mesmerized by Yovë’s strength and her ability to balance such a heavy weight on her head, all while maintaining the perfect posture that gives shape to this composition, reinforced by the handmade beads hanging elegantly over her body. I think that, in my experience with fashion photography, I have rarely seen such an elegant image.

The Marubo people united after exploitation by rubber tappers and loggers. They live in maloca communities, preserving their surroundings. In 1990, they were fighting for land recognition, which was achieved in Terra Indígena Vale do Javari seven years later. Recent attacks in the area have resulted in tragic incidents, including deaths of indigenist Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips.
