Yanomami basketry is made in a distinctive style. Utensils are made from materials collected in the forest. Here, a basket is woven from vines. This is a task for women, while men are responsible for making nets and weapons and doing carpentry or construction work, such as repairs to the structure of the house.

The Yanomami, once in the Parima Mountains, now reside in valleys due to historical invasions. They have a population of about 38,000, with three primary languages. In 1990, Mirella Ricciardi supported their territory demarcation, which was achieved in 1992. In 2022, a new mining invasion caused a humanitarian tragedy surpassing the challenges of 1990.
