This woman was going down to the river to bathe with her baby when the child turned to me with a beautiful gaze, as steady as it was curious. Along with cassava, their dominant food, the women, accompanied by their young children, also collect smaller animals such as frogs and land crabs, termite larvae, and caterpillars.

The Yanomami, once in the Parima Mountains, now reside in valleys due to historical invasions. They have a population of about 38,000, with three primary languages. In 1990, Mirella Ricciardi supported their territory demarcation, which was achieved in 1992. In 2022, a new mining invasion caused a humanitarian tragedy surpassing the challenges of 1990.
